Future Forward: Which candidate do you support?

HBN needs your help to decide on whom to support for the city council election in June.

Do you know who the candidates are for the upcoming council election? Do you know any of them personally? What can you tell us about them, their backgrounds, ethics, platforms? Tell us what you know (without slander or obscenity, please). We invite the candidates to write in, as well, to tell us about themselves. Spread the word.

HBN neither agrees nor disagrees with any post. Inappropriate posts will be removed.

I will be voting for Joe Shaw. He represents the much needed change we could use on the City Council. I will vote for my other choices according to those who see the same vision I see for Huntington Beach, clean beaches, clean air, no more industrial/chemical building along the S. E. Coastline. We need to do everything possible to enhance our vacation destination atmosphere without causing distress to the citizens who already live and work in Huntington Beach. Quality over quantity.

I’m proudly supporting Joe Shaw because he will represent the residents. I like his environmental background, but he’s more than that–he’s been a small business owner and knows what it takes to succeed and can make the necessary decisions to carry that success forward.

I’ll be supporting Blair Farley, Joe Shaw and Norm Westwell for city council. Norm’s run a couple times before and would be someone who might really shake things up. I’m not exactly a libertarian but feel we need to downsize HB government not keep chasing sales revenue all the time.

Joe Shaw should make an excellent councilman. He’s has a great grasp of the issues is both pro business and pro environment.

I also like what I see from Blair Farley. He tried to make the DTSP less dense and seems to favor a more balanced growth policy downtown.

I will be voting for Joe Shaw and Dan Kalmick. Every time I venture downtown, the featureless faux stucco buildings seem to beg for a cover so we can proudly proclaim to have the first indoor coastal mall. I am trusting my vote for Shaw & Kalmick will slow the mallification of Huntington Beach and return some of the beauty of the coast to downtown and champion more sustainable solutions to issues facing our city.

Hello all, I know I’m late to the conversation but I thought you might want to know a little more about me! My name is Landon Fichtner and I’m one of the candidates running for HB city council. My education is from UCLA, in Atmospheric Oceanic and Environmental Sciences, and I have worked at a variety of larg scale corporations in banking, media, and communications. This combination, I feel makes me the ideal person to properly ballance the development our city needs with environmental responsibility we all share as residents of a coastal community.
