Historic Wintersburg — Support Emails
Dear HB Neighbors,
Please consider sending an email, to support the inclusion of Huntington Beach’s Historic Wintersburg properties, on the list of America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places, sponsored by the National Trust for Historic Places. The Historic Wintersburg properties have been nominated for this listing.
Although only one of the six properties is visible from the street, their address is 7622-7642 Warner Avenue, on the southeast corner of Warner Avenue and Nichols Street. These properties date back to as early as 1910, and include one of the oldest Japanese Missions in Southern California, and an important pioneering Japanese farm from Orange County’s agricultural era. You can also learn more about the properties’ history at: http://www.historicwintersburg.blogspot.com
Your email should go to the following address:
Your email can be as simple as the sample below:
“I am a resident of Huntington Beach, CA, and I support the nomination of our City’s Historic Wintersburg properties to ‘America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places,’ sponsored by the National Trust for Historic Places.”
Your email needs to be received no later than Tuesday, April 15th. Please feel free to include any other information that you choose in your email. As well, we have attached a .pdf file, outlining the historic context of these Historic Wintersburg properties, portions or all of which you could use in your email.
Mary Adams Urashima, a local historic preservationist, has been one of the leading proponents in the work to save these Historic Wintersburg properties. As you might know, Mary was one of our major allies in HB Neighbors’ work over the years for our successful nomination to, and listing on, the National Register of Historic Places in April 2013, for the Huntington Beach Public Library on Triangle Park. For this reason, HB Neighbors has been supporting Mary’s efforts to preserve the Historic Wintersburg properties, even though this project is not located in our Downtown.
Thank you for your consideration of sending a support email for the preservation of these Historic Wintersburg properties. We appreciate your interest in our city’s residential quality of life issues, including the value of our one-hundred-plus years of local heritage.
